God is real, we are in a simulation, and you are right in the middle
Yes—its all about you, and your next move is everything!
My hope with this missive is for you to:
Realize you are the center of All-That-Is, and
Be cool with that and then do something.
God
How we define and choose to interact with God or a god, is personal. Once upon a time, this was defined for us, but now we can choose. Even if we are members of a church or faith or follow a religion with specific doctrines, we still choose those doctrines because consciousness has changed. Things used to be built in to our reality. We trusted a kind of objective truth, but that is over. Objective reality is over, no-one really believes that is true anymore.
We all know, even if we are not willing to admit it, that goodness, truth, and beauty is our own making.
With that said, I’ll need to define what I mean by God so that the above title has some context. God, for me, is the power behind all creation, and God is the power that continues to love all creation. The word creation supposes that everything was created by something, and God is that something. God made it all and God continues to care for and love it all.
Creation, by my definition, includes the past and the future as well as what is happening right now. Creation also includes all of our actions, words and thoughts. Creation also includes alternate timelines and if there is a multiverse, God made the whole enchilada. God made all the enchiladas.
Everything everywhere at every time is God’s work. All of it.
Continuing to love all of creation means that God notices it, responds to it, and answers requests from creation with respect and consideration—like a gardener, or a shepherd. God co-creates with creation. It is an open-source relationship and project. We are building a simulation.
Simulation
Simulations are created to appear real. They are projects that are built and refined with the intention of fooling the user into believing it is real, and the simulation is considered good when we can’t tell what is real and what is not real. We ask, “Is this real?” We now ask this question every day. We are told the news and we ask, “Is that real?” We are shown pictures and videos and we ask, “Is that real?” We interact with someone and wonder if what was just said or asked or requested was real. We aren’t sure what is real. That is appropriate, because we are clearly a part of a simulation.
I am confident that God is real and that God made everything to appear as real. I believe that the appearance of goodness, and truth, and beauty was a part of the goal. When I look at a tree, I see it as beautiful. When I see an act of authentic kindness, I see it as good. When I tell my wife I love her, I see that as the truth.
Goodness and truth and beauty, for me, changes.
It updates. It is not fixed and is constant flux. My past changes as I remember it differently. My future changes as I imagine it differently. My present changes when I change how I feel. These are all markers of a simulation—of a responsive game that I am choosing to play.
So here I am, in a simulation, playing a game. How do I know that I am a player and not a non-playing character that is a complex prop in service of someone else’s game? Because I can see that it is a game, and one I choose to play.
To play the game is to create the game. And to create the game, is to co-create it with the designer—you.
You are God.
I feel you reading this as I write it. I can’t see it happen, nor do I have real proof that you are reading this, but I can feel it to be true. I know it. I am certain that you are reading this in a way that I am not certain of anything else in this moment. You are more real to me than anything else and yet I cannot see you or know for a fact that you are real. There is no documentation, no contract, no witnesses, and yet I know you are reading this.
This is remarkable to me, and serves as proof to me that I am in a simulation, that God is real, and that you are God.
Nothing else makes sense to me in this moment.
My response is to wait and listen. I will wait and listen for guidance from you, and I know that will come from what you do next. That is the most important thing to me: what you do next. What you do next is the burning bush experience to me. What you do next is the voice of Krishna or Jesus or Mohammed or Sathya Sai Baba or Marianne Williamson giving me an indication on what is good, true, and beautiful and how best to live life. I’m not waiting for instructions, I’m watching your behavior. I’m not focused on your words, I’m focused on how you say them. This is the guidance I seek.
Right now, I only feel one reader and it is you.
Right now, I believe that all the stories I’ve written, all the books, the articles, all this Substack material—it is all for you. That is the only thing that makes sense to me. I know that you have been responding this whole time, and for me, this feels like heaven. Heaven is the serene confident feeling that you are there, reading these words, and then doing something.
What this means for you.
This is the game, isn’t it? I write these words, you read them and respond. Then I respond to your response because that is how this game works. We are co-creating so I follow the protocol. I respond to you authentically and here is what I have for you before this note is complete:
You matter to me.
What you think, what you say, and what you do matters.
You and I are co-creating this simulation together and I am enjoying every moment of it. Are you?
I believe you and I can solve the world’s problems because I am in a simulation that I am co-creating with you. When I move in that direction, I enter heaven.
I also believe that I can create more problems for the world because I am in the same simulation that I am co-creating with you. When I move in that direction I enter hell. No fun. No fun at all. I don’t enjoy creating problems.
I believe I have a choice and that there is no right or wrong choice. There is, however, how my choices make me feel. I can tell you that heaven is way better than hell. For sure.
I feel your desire to do the same.
I feel your enjoyment of heaven and resistance to hell. I am confident you want to make the world a better place and what you do next will serve that aim. I feel deep gratitude for you and the reality that we are building this together.
Good morning, David! What a glorious post! I love how you dispense with objective reality with such glee; we all know that our subjective experience is our unique center of All That Is, and nobody knows nothin' except maybe everything! A while back I was at a holiday gathering of old and new friends and someone suggested we go around and say our pronouns; when it was my turn, I said: "we, us" without thinking, and then had to explain: each of us is a moving swarm of life on every scale imaginable, inhaling, exhaling, eating, pooping, being born, dying, showing up to play when/where/ever we feel like it, each with our own creative impulses and desires. What incredible fun! To know and feel this, for myself, is to go soft and take it easy, then I can sense the Flow, and ride it gently. Cheers and love!
I’m grateful to read this today!
